Non-free firmware files in Replicant?

Added by Linus Drumbler over 11 years ago

I'm referring to https://gitorious.org/replicant/kernel_htc_msm/source/13f96d51963dc89fa31944673143fb710753d09a:firmware/atmsar11.HEX. This appears to be non-free microcode that will be executed by the CPU.

Firmwares are not executed by the CPU, else they wouldn't be called firmwares (at the exception of the CPU microcodes).
Obviously, the firmwares are still in the git history but we remove them from the actual source tree files.
The HTC kernel is no longer used in recent Replicant versions. Maybe in the past, these firmwares were part of the source tree files (I don't remember), but we've addressed this issue since then on newer versions and we dropped older versions, so things will stay as-is.
