[urgent] stuck on encryption login

Added by E D over 10 years ago

Hello,

My phone (i9300) began to sing as if someone was calling me, but there were no incoming calls.

I decided to reboot and after giving the encryption password it gets stuck on the encryption splash image.

I do not understand what happened, never had any problems before.

What can I do ?

What can I do ?

Hard to say. I would try to "dirty" reflash the Replicant image like this:

[variant 1 - leaves your apps & settings untouched]
  • power-off your device
  • boot into recovery mode, (hold volume-up + menu (home) + power buttons at the same time)
  • "- install zip"
  • "- choose zip from sdcard"
  • choose the latest image for your device (e. g. "replicant-4.2-i9300.zip") on your sd-card.
(It's necessary to use your sd-card-slot, because you don't have access to your internal encrypted storage over CWM-recovery)
  • "Go Back" to the main-screen
  • "- wipe cache partition" (followed by "Yes - Wipe Cache")
  • "- reboot system now"

Good luck at this point.

[variant 2 - be aware, this kills your apps & settings!]
If this doesn't work, it could be necessary to "- wipe data/factory reset" but this point kills all your personal data (pictures, contacts, ...) and settings (installed apps, configurations and content of your system apps like email, calendar, ...).
At this point I hope you have an up-to-date backup.

Thanks for your reply,

I just do not understand what happened.

just before being asked the encryption password, the left hand side led blinks red once.

I never noticed this before, do you know what it means ?

It is not due to too low battery, it is currently 50% and anyway, it also freezes when on charge.

If I have no more hints, I will probably have to do what you advised, what a shame for all my settings and contact ...

I just do not understand what happened.

Me to, I'm sorry. This is definitely a non-typical behavior.

just before being asked the encryption password, the left hand side led blinks red once.

I don't have such a led on my device. But it's basically not a good sign to get the color <red> from a status led.

I never noticed this before, do you know what it means ?

No, you could try to search for red status led in your device manual or the www in context with CyanogenMod or something like this. Probably there are some more users, which has this behavior...

It is not due to too low battery, it is currently 50% and anyway, it also freezes when on charge.

AFAIK the status led is not only restricted to the battery. (So it could probably give you more informations about the status of the hardware).

If I have no more hints, I will probably have to do what you advised, what a shame for all my settings and contact ...

Just try [variant 1] first, (this is absolutely harmless to your apps and or settings).

In the future it's definitely a good idea to make backups. If you also don't like online/remote/sync solutions, just give

a try.

Hello,

I indeed had to wipe out all my user data. But reinstall went well and there are no hardware malfunction noticeable.

Thanks for your help and ... yes, I will have a look on backing solutions.

I remember having seen one backup option when booting into recovery, does it make a full backup of settings and applications installed ?

Best regards

I remember having seen one backup option when booting into recovery, does it make a full backup of settings and applications installed ?

I never used this option but I would say no, because:

"ClockworkMod's backup/restore feature will generally only back up the /system, /data, /cache, /sd-ext, and /dalvik-cache areas. Other partitions such as /emmc, /sdcard, and /media won't be backed up. In fact, the backed up system will typically be saved to the /sdcard/ partition in the /clockworkmod/backup/ directory, which, depending on your device, may or may not be actually located on a physical removable SD card."
